This lecture focused on the unique hazards of Parking Garages and appropriate strategies and tactics associated with fires in such garages. Engine 3 and Utility 57 responded into Raritan today to assist in a quickly spreading brush fire along Orlando Dr. A line was stretched off the Utility and Engine 3 assisted in filling additional brush trucks from the state forest fire service and surrounding area. ...
Utility 57 was designed to go where no conventional fire apparatus fits - parking decks. With many new parking structures in Somerville, with many more to come, Somerville FD designed this apparatus to be able to respond to any emergency that could take place in a parking deck. Tonight Somerville fire members had the pleasure of receiving a lecture from FDNY retired Deputy Chief Ted Goldfarb. The topic was fires in wood frame construction buildings, hitting specifically on the new lightweight construction being built and older balloon frame buildings throughout town. Chief Goldfarb imparted a wealth of knowledge from his decades of experience and first hand examples with all that attended. As our borough is grown into a small city by developers, we hope to grow our knowledge as much as possible to try and keep up with the buildings being erected overnight around us. ...
Tonight the @somerville54rescue held their annual dinner. Numerous members of the squad who are also Somerville Fire members received life saving awards for their efforts the night Ida wrecked havoc across our borough. Congrats to those members for their heroic efforts! ...
