History

The Somerville Fire Department has been proudly serving the residents and visitors of the Borough of Somerville, New Jersey since 1835. The Somerville Fire Department continues to be volunteer since 1835. The dedicated personnel are equipped to handle and mitigate emergencies involving fire suppression, hazardous materials response, and all rescue services. The department currently operates 4 Fire Engines and 1 Ladder Truck along with other specialized equipment and utility vehicles within the 2.2 square mile county seat of Somerset County. On average the department responds to 650+ fire calls per year with that number increasing as the borough continues to increase in size.
