Yesterday afternoon at approximately 3:30pm, Somerville Engine 3 was requested into the Borough of Manville along with other mutual aid companies for a 1st alarm structure fire on Fable Ave. Engine 3’s crew assisted with ventilation and overhaul after a great knockdown by Manville companies. Units were secured and returned to the borough in approximately an hour and a half.
Tonight Station 57 performed a walk through of new construction being completed in the center of town! Working with the developers to learn new construction materials and layouts is just another part of being able to protect our community to the best we can! Station 57 was dispatched to a 2 story OMD with a report of fire on the back deck. First arriving units confirmed a fire on the back deck with possible extension into the basement. Asst Chief 57-1 assigned Engine 52-2, due to their close proximity, & transmitted the box. Crews from Truck 57 and Engine 57-3 extinguished the fire. The assignment was held to Station 57 & 52. Station 57 was dispatched into Bound Brook for a working fire in a 3 story residential building, upon arrival of Chief 23, Fire conditions were visible and exposure conditions on both adjacent dwellings. Engine 57-1, Chief 57, and the Assistants were assigned to fire suppression and exposure protection of the D side of the fire building. Truck 57 and Engine 57-1 were assigned to a area wide cover assignment, while also responding into Manville for a fire call. Today, there was a VILLE wide clean-up organized by Somerville OEM Jason Kraska, and Somerville DPW. Organizations, families, and even children from all over town came out to clean up the garbage and recycling. Following the clean-up, everyone enjoyed pizza and drinks at Somerville Fire Department!
