About us

The Somerville Fire Department has been proudly serving the residents of the borough if Somerville New Jersey since 1835. We are a volunteer department with an additional maintenance division which is staffed with firefighters during the daytime. Our dedicated members are trained to handle and mitigate emergencies involving fire suppression, hazardous materials response, and other forms of rescue. The department currently operates 3 engines and 1 truck along with other specialized equipment and utility vehicles out of 3 separate firehouses within the 2.2 square mile county seat of Somerset County. On average the department responds to 400+ fire calls per year with that call number increasing as the borough continues to increase in size.
